Laraine Newman: The Audition

Laraine Newman wrote The Audition after coming home from a particularly mortifying one…..well, actually, they’re ALL mortifying. She shares these experiences with the audience as she talks about auditioning for Bob Hope. Martin Scorsese, the beginning of The Groundlings and Saturday Night Live. You also get to meet the demons in her head. FUN!

Charles: Moby Alpha

An homage to classic sci-fi and classical literature, Moby Alpha tells the story of a mad captain’s quest for revenge on the amorphous energy cloud that temporarily took his leg. More simply put, Moby Alpha is Moby-Dick in space, but funny.

The show is performed in an entirely dark theater, with the only light emanating from the duo’s custom-built million-color LED space helmets, creating a unique, otherworldly aesthetic. No flashlights required.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ – "The writing is superb…the most creative use of lighting I’ve ever seen…an ingenious bit of comedy theater!” - Edinburgh Festivals Magazine
“The staging is so clever it nearly overheated my circuits. Simple, but practically perfect!" - The Scotsman

Moby Alpha is written and performed by Charles, the award-winning comedy duo composed of Chuck Armstrong & Charlie Stockman. Heralded by Centerstage Chicago as “absolutely brilliant,” Charles has performed throughout North America and the UK, including annual appearances at the Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, and Toronto Sketch Festivals; the LA Comedy Festival; the Toronto, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Victoria, Hollywood, and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals; the People’s Improv Theater New York; the UCB Theatre Los Angeles; and the Comedy Central Stage Hollywood. Winners of “Best Writing” and “Best Sketch Comedy” at the 2012 LA Comedy festival, and “Best Film” at the 2013 Seattle Comedy Film Challenge. $20

You might see two Glockenspiel clockmen debate the existence of freewill, or a pair of 19th century gentlemen play Jenga by mail. The show is intelligent without sacrificing accessibility, as Charles seamlessly... Read More →
